The 27th August marked the 30th anniversary of the first Australian satellite launch, A1. In 1981, the Australian Government formed AUSSAT, a company which was created to own and operate Australia’s National Satellite System. Soon after in 1985, Australia’s first two satellites launched – A1 in August and A2 in November. This was the commencement of domestic satellite services in Australia, particularly for remote and rural TV broadcasting.
